From Luxury to Necessity: Technology platforms a necessity for libraries in 2021.

Doug Depies

Today technology and innovation are more important than ever before for our social, cultural and biological survival in the new normal. And without using the same convenient technology as everyone around us we are bound to be at a disadvantage.

In our personal lives we are now used to consuming information on our mobile devices through recommendations from virtual assistants like Google assistant, Siri and Alexa. But to discover and access research articles or course content, library patrons still need to visit library websites, log in every time and search for desired information and all of this takes a significant amount of time and effort.

To meet patron expectations that are driven by experience in their personal lives, Eclat team will continue to focus on product innovation, extended support and user engagement initiatives for both our platforms i.e., RemoteXs and MyLOFT this year.

With budget cuts and traditional forms of instructions being disrupted in 2020, it will be vital for libraries to manage change and communicate it effectively and double down on technology adoption to support remote learning and research needs of library patrons in 2021.

I would like to thank all our stakeholders viz. users, partner libraries, channel partners, publishers and investors and look forward to their continued association, support and guidance in 2021 and beyond. “
